White Eyebrow Training
Before he acquired White Eyebrows training Zhong Li Chuan (Cheung Lai Chun) had
embraced three different Shaolin systems: that of master Li Yi, master Lam Sek, and master
Lin Ya-he. Zhong Li Chuan, in honor of his early roots, had selected one of the best sets
from each of the three systems and made them part of the program he designed for his
students of the fifth generation. This set of three patterns we identify as the external
sets: from master Li Yi came San Min, from master Lam Sek came Shi Zi Kao Da (or Flower),
and from master Lin Ya-he came Ying Zhua Lian Qiao (or Dragon).
In contrast, the internal sets, also called White Eyebrow proper, are the ones Zhong Li
Chuan had learned from Monk Fa Yuan. In sequence of advancement, they are: Zhi Bu Biao Zhi
(Straight Forward), Jiu Biao Tui (Nine Step Push), Shi Ba Mo Qiao (Eighteen Hand Skills),
Meng Hu Chu Lin (Tiger from the Jungles) and Wu Xing Mo Qiao (Five Elements Hand Skills).
The last set was the most guarded of the sets, and of the fifth generation that actually
received it from Zhong Li Chuan, there may be only two survivors: his son Zhong Ping Lin
and his disciple Chin Suey Dor (also known as Chen Dor) of New York City. Both are in
their seventies.
The external sets and the internal sets make up the whole White Eyebrow training program.
Weapons are considered the extension of bare-hand/open hand training. After students have
succeeded in mastering all the internal and external sets, they should exhibit a unified
body, which is supported by their inner structural tensions. In White Eyebrow terms, they
show indication of their six powers simultaneously at work. After this stage of
competency, they will be taught the guarded Shaolin meditations/internal breathing methods
to enhance their mental readiness for the ultimate development of power of tremor, a
unique feature of high level White Eyebrow training. |
